What is SEO? And Why is it Important?
What is SEO?
SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization - the practice of improving a web page so when people are searching for your products, services, or content online, your site is at top the search results. The more optimized a page is, the higher up it will appear in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).
Why do I need it?
Currently there are over 3 billion searches a day on Google alone. Out of those 3.5 billion searches, 32.5% of people click the first result. After that, the numbers drop drastically going as low as a 2.4% click-through rate on the 10th result. This means if a competitor ranks number 1 and you rank number 10 for a query, they will get approximately 15 times more quality views that your company is missing out on.
How do I do it?
If you asked Google, “How do I rank higher?” their enlightening response would be to “make good content.” In a perfect world, all someone would have to do is make an engaging website and traffic would come. However, with over 1 billion websites competing for search engine rankings, this just isn’t the case. Great content should never be forfeited, but an initial push from a SEO Campaign ran by professionals is necessary to give the content a chance to be seen.
Since manipulation of search engine results is against Google’s quality guidelines, attempting to take on SEO yourself is an irrational decision. Not only is SEO a difficult and time consuming profession, but also one mistake could cost you all traffic to your domain. Pending on the extent of the violation this can last for months or perhaps indefinitely.
